The future of ecommerce just got closer

AI, social, and shopping are colliding

Hey Aneka,

This week, ecommerce showed us both its biggest risks and boldest opportunities.

Threads is surging past X in the number of active users. Meta's experimenting with ad-free social for UK users who are willing to pay. Amazon just made your camera a shopping cart thanks to Lens Live. Shopify and OpenAI are fusing discovery and checkout into a single chat. Even Microsoft's Copilot is trying its hand as a personal stylist.

All of this points to one thing: discovery, conversation, and purchase are converging.

The friction between intent and action is melting away. That's an enormous gift for brands ready to adapt – because customers are about to encounter your products in more places, more naturally, than ever before.

But here's the truth: every one of those shiny new touchpoints is rented land. Founders who thrive won't just chase the next platform. They'll turn fleeting attention into lasting relationships through owned channels like email, SMS, and loyalty programs. That's where customers come back, margins hold, and growth compounds no matter how the platforms shift.

The opportunity is right in front of us: meet customers where they are, then bring them home.

Let's be honest — getting clicks is getting harder. Ad costs are rising, algorithms are punishing outbound traffic, and even email engagement is plagued by bots and privacy filters.

But the brands that are thriving right now? They've stopped obsessing over the click. Instead, they're squeezing every ounce of value from the people who already did click — the ones who joined their list, visited their site, or bought once.

That's the focus of my session at the Global Email Marketing Summit:

"Beyond the Click: How Smart Automation Builds Lasting Customer Relationships"

You'll learn how to:

  • Use smart automation to turn first-time visitors into lifelong customers

  • Personalize customer journeys at scale without sounding robotic

  • Automate experiences that feel tailored, not templated

  • Build systems that drive retention, LTV, and real revenue

📅 The summit runs October 6–10, fully online, with sessions in English, Spanish, and Portuguese.

🎯 60+ talks, global experts, zero fluff.

Paying more for less attention?

This week's platform changes, and a plan to keep conversions.

Hey Aneka,

Algorithms change; acronyms do too. The only constant is the marketer's fight for traffic and conversions.

What do we even call it now: SEO, AEO, GEO? Tim Soulo, CMO at Ahrefs, posted that question on LinkedIn. One user replied "LMAO," which pretty much summarizes marketers' frustration.

In a single week: Google's quiet removal of the num=100 parameter reportedly dented keyword visibility for ~77% of sites. ChatGPT's visible citations shifted for some users. YouTube announced swappable ad segments in long-form videos and it will begin testing early next year. That's one more place your brand must compete for placement. After all the fears of it being banned, TikTok looks set to remain in the U.S. under new guardrails.

Different headlines, same pattern: breakneck changes, uncertainty, and little time to adapt.

We can't quit those channels and we shouldn't. They're still unmatched for reach, demand gen, and creative testing. But as long as your growth depends on somebody else's algorithm, the cost of staying visible will keep rising.

But the solution is usually hiding in plain sight: when acquisition becomes too challenging, make sure to invest in retaining those you acquire.

Grow an email list that grows every month. Build a community that survives a policy tweak. Create a content hub people would subscribe to instead of searching for. With the right tools, it can be easier than you imagine.

☕ Team picks:

📊 Why Cold Emails Don't Work: A 700+ Email Study (2025): Over 180 days the author analyzed 756 cold marketing emails to uncover the patterns and clickbait that kill replies. See the data, word clouds, and better alternatives.

📉 77% of Sites Lost Keyword Visibility: Google's removal of the &num=100 parameter triggered sharp drops in impressions, rankings, and keyword visibility.

💰Google + PayPal Partnership: Google and PayPal entered a multi-year strategic partnership to bring new AI shopping and payment experiences on Google Cloud, Google Play and other Google products.

🛒 YouTube Is Turning Into a Shopping Channel: YouTube just announced a set of new tools to help creators make more money: AI product tagging, brand links for Shorts, and swappable ad segments that can be resold to different sponsors.

📦 Gmail Gets One-Stop Purchase Tracking: Google launched a new "Purchases" view that consolidates all your order confirmations and delivery updates in one organized list, plus a smarter Promotions tab that highlights relevant deals from brands you actually engage with.

Grow your audience on TikTok. Convert them with GetResponse.

The smart play isn't avoiding rented channels entirely but using them to build owned assets. TikTok is where your next customers are scrolling, but GetResponse is where you keep them forever.

Exclusive offer for New TikTok Advertisers: Spend $200, Get $200 OR Spend $1,500, Get $1,000 in ad credit.

The difference? Instead of just chasing views and hoping the algorithm stays friendly, you're capturing those viewers into your email list — turning TikTok's rented audience into your owned relationship.
