The future of ecommerce just got closer

AI, social, and shopping are colliding

Hey Aneka,

This week, ecommerce showed us both its biggest risks and boldest opportunities.

Threads is surging past X in the number of active users. Meta's experimenting with ad-free social for UK users who are willing to pay. Amazon just made your camera a shopping cart thanks to Lens Live. Shopify and OpenAI are fusing discovery and checkout into a single chat. Even Microsoft's Copilot is trying its hand as a personal stylist.

All of this points to one thing: discovery, conversation, and purchase are converging.

The friction between intent and action is melting away. That's an enormous gift for brands ready to adapt – because customers are about to encounter your products in more places, more naturally, than ever before.

But here's the truth: every one of those shiny new touchpoints is rented land. Founders who thrive won't just chase the next platform. They'll turn fleeting attention into lasting relationships through owned channels like email, SMS, and loyalty programs. That's where customers come back, margins hold, and growth compounds no matter how the platforms shift.

The opportunity is right in front of us: meet customers where they are, then bring them home.

Let's be honest — getting clicks is getting harder. Ad costs are rising, algorithms are punishing outbound traffic, and even email engagement is plagued by bots and privacy filters.

But the brands that are thriving right now? They've stopped obsessing over the click. Instead, they're squeezing every ounce of value from the people who already did click — the ones who joined their list, visited their site, or bought once.

That's the focus of my session at the Global Email Marketing Summit:

"Beyond the Click: How Smart Automation Builds Lasting Customer Relationships"

You'll learn how to:

  • Use smart automation to turn first-time visitors into lifelong customers

  • Personalize customer journeys at scale without sounding robotic

  • Automate experiences that feel tailored, not templated

  • Build systems that drive retention, LTV, and real revenue

📅 The summit runs October 6–10, fully online, with sessions in English, Spanish, and Portuguese.

🎯 60+ talks, global experts, zero fluff.

☕ Team picks:

📺 YouTube to Reinstate Banned Channels: More ad inventory is coming back, but with brand-safety risks that marketers will need to navigate carefully.

🛍️ ChatGPT Is Now 20% of Walmart's Referral Traffic: AI is becoming a major driver of shopping discovery, creating new opportunities (and risks) for retailers.

🔍 Google Discover Update: Google Discover now displays social media posts from Instagram, X, and YouTube Shorts alongside traditional articles, creating a unified content feed.

⚖️ Amazon Fined $2.5B in FTC Case: A warning for ecommerce businesses to make sign-ups and cancellations simple and transparent.

📈 Demand Gen September 2025: Google Ads just rolled out updates including omni-channel bidding, local offers, and new conversion lift tools that help marketers optimize both online and offline sales.

👻 Consumers Set to Spend $13.1B This Halloween: Early shoppers and discount hunters signal the need for smart, segmented campaigns.
